Today's Reading: Gen. 3-4 and Matt. 2
Two things really spoke to me through today's Bible reading.
First, from reading Genesis 3, I was thinking how Satan's tool for getting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit was convincing her that God was holding out on her. He convinced her that God was holding something GOOD back from her, and so she needed to eat the fruit to experience that good thing. His deception then is still His deception today. His main line of attack is trying to get us to be discontent and to believe that God is not giving us the GOOD that we deserve. And so we keep following his subtle suggestions and temptations and seeking for ourselves what God has not given. And yet the Scriptures say:
Let's not fall for this temptation! For God is good, and He gives His best to those who trust in Him!
The second thing that really spoke to me this morning was from my reading in Matthew 2 where we find the Wise Men traveling such a great distance to WORSHIP the baby King Jesus. They did not come to ask favors, to ask for a miracle or for anything else. They simply came to WORSHIP! This month in the devotional section of Longing for God, the focus is on prayers that please God, prayers that worship God. As I was reading about the Wise Men this morning I was thinking how much they sacrificed just to WORSHIP JESUS, and yet how little we sacrifice. In fact, we have a hard time just leaving the warm comforts of our bed to get on our knees on the cold floor to WORSHIP Jesus. We don't have a problem complaining or giving God our great shopping list... but just leaving our comforts to WORSHIP Him???
Hmmmm..... We have some lessons to learn from these Wise Men!
My prayer today: Lord give me such a hunger and thirst for You, such a longing for You, that I will do whatever it takes, sacrifice any comforts, go to any distance, just to WORSHIP You and know you MORE!
