The Bible reads, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Regarding this powerful promise, it is written in the book Desire of Ages, "Thus Christ gave His disciples their commission. He made full provision for the prosecution of the work, and took upon Himself the responsibility for it's success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail. Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe, but know that My presence will be there. Labor in faith and confidence, for the time will never come when I will forsake you." p. 822
There are a couple things that jumped out to me in this powerful commentary on Acts 1:8. One is that as Christ has given us the commission, He also makes provision and takes responsibility for the success. We just need to abide in Him and obey His Word.
The second is that He promises that as we labor in faith and confidence, the time will never come when He will forsake us! Never!! PTL for this promise!
So the summary of it all is, if we abide, He will provide.
"Lord, help us learn to abide in you, depend upon you, and work in complete surrender to you today!" This is my prayer.
